Internationally-renowned businesses, including over 50 Global Fortune 500 or FTSE 100 companies, and over half of the world’s top twenty banks, rely on BLP’s lawyers for clear, practical legal advice to help them achieve their commercial objectives. They tell us they come to BLP because of our excellence in technical legal quality, our close understanding of their business realities, and our ability to deal flexibly with complexity. Our personal commitment to their success has seen clients entrust us with their most complex projects, and come back to us time and again - our year-on-year client loyalty exceeds 90%. The quality of service we provide to those companies has been recognised with eight Law Firm of the Year awards since 2004.
Helping clients succeed internationally has also seen the firm expand into emerging markets and global financial centres. We have delivered client projects in 130 countries via our 12 international offices – our international business doubling in the last five years.
A culture that fosters and rewards new thinking has seen BLP become a leading innovator in the legal services sector. BLP is ranked in the top ten most innovative law firms in Europe by the Financial Times for delivering solutions such as: our Integrated Client Service Model; Streamline – BLP’s proprietary legal service improvement service; our Integrated Dispute Resolution capability; Lawyers On Demand; and other innovations in client-service that we can share with you if you join us(!).
Our achievements for clients have only been made possible by amazing people. BLP thrives on talent and we invest heavily in helping our people to fulfil their potential. Across the entire firm we run 1200 training courses per annum – roughly five per day – and BLP has been named the best graduate legal employer for four consecutive years by Legal Week.
Throughout this site we elaborate on each of the points made above. We also bring to life the distinctive reasons why we believe BLP is the best place to kick-start a successful career in law. You’ll discover the investment made in your training, see and hear examples of the immediate work opportunities that will come your way if you join, and hopefully get a flavour of our innovative and distinctly human culture. Moreover, we hope you will be convinced to consider applying for a training contract, or joining us on a vacation scheme to learn more. If you don’t want to sit on a legal assembly line, are up for a challenge and want to bring ‘the whole you’ to work (not just wear a ‘City Lawyer costume’) we would love to hear from you.
Beyond that, and on behalf of everyone at BLP, we wanted to wish you the best of luck wherever you are in your current studies or career.
An inclusive and inspirational culture fosters high performance: mixed teams make the best business decisions.
At BLP we aim to create an environment where all our employees are valued, motivated and able to be themselves, whatever their differences might be.
We value the power of teamwork and cooperation, and place great emphasis on the benefits this provides to individuals and the firm
Our Inclusivity strategy was launched in 2015 and has five areas of focus; Culture, Family, Gender Representation, Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender* and Social Inclusion and Ethnicity. It’s important to BLP that whatever we do, we do it well and so the list was selectively chosen. Each of the five areas have a task-group of volunteers who meet regularly to discuss relevant issues and drive things forward with a variety of events and initiatives.

Our culture fundamentally underpins all of the other areas of our Inclusivity strategy. We need an environment where employees feel comfortable and able to be themselves, in order to make progress. All employees will be accountable for fostering a diverse and inclusive culture, with partners and line managers leading by example.
At BLP we recognise that family-life and working-life are not mutually exclusive. We have working practices that are supportive of individuals life and family responsibilities, whatever those may look like.
We are committed to increasing the number of women in senior management roles, pitch and project teams and firm-wide committees. Our target is to achieve 30% female representation in the UK partnership by the end of 2018, and more female partners globally.
We have had an active LGBT* group in place since 2007 and use various internal and external events and initiatives to raise awareness and educate all staff about our LGBT* community.
DiversCity is the brainchild of BLP and Herbert Smith Freehills and since its creation in 2011 over 10 other law firms now take part. DiversCity is a unique recruitment event aimed at raising awareness of pursuing a legal career in the City amongst LGBT* students and graduates. For more information visit www.diverscityinlaw.net.
Having a diverse workforce, with a mix of people at all levels, in all departments, is incredibly important. This is why we are trying hard to encourage upward social mobility and ethnic diversity both within and outside of the legal profession.
The BLP Career Kick-Start Work Experience programme was inspired by the PRIME initiative and is also a part of the Legal Social Mobility Partnership (LSMP).
PRIME was launched in 2011 by the legal sector to provide fair access to quality work experience in law firms for young people. LSMP was subsequently created to provide a further week of work experience in corporate legal teams. Both of these initiatives aim to level the playing field, in recognition that students from more privileged backgrounds, particularly those who have been privately educated, may have access to more work experience and networking opportunities than others. The programme provides a holistic view of the legal sector and different opportunities to practice as a solicitor.
The BLP Career Kick-Start Work Experience programme is designed to provide Year 12 students with a detailed insight into what it’s like to work in a City law firm and in in-house legal roles. The programme comprises two weeks as follows:
Week One (23 - 27 July 2018) - A week at BLP’s offices, gaining a real insight into what lawyers do on a daily basis via work shadowing as well as information on the different routes in to the profession and a number of skills sessions to help prepare you for the world of work.
Week Two (30 July – 3 August 2018) – A week visiting a different organisation each day in a variety of sectors – including sports, financial services and media. During this week you will learn how law firms interact with their clients and the different roles for lawyers in these organisations. There will be plenty of opportunities to build your network speak to people from all of the different organisations involved.
