Marilyn McKeever specialises in international and UK tax and estate planning for high net worth individuals. This includes personal and trust taxation and all aspects of offshore and onshore trusts and wills. She focuses in particular on the remittance basis of taxation and on tax and estate planning for non UK domiciled clients, especially those with a US connection. She obtains and co-ordinates advice on cross border tax and legal matters, such as compulsory inheritance rules and cross-border tax and double tax treaty issues.
Marilyn also practises in the area of “commercial trusts” including UK and international tax and trust issues relating to pension schemes, employee benefit trusts and “disguised remuneration”, as well as issues affecting commercial transactions involving trusts or to which trustees are parties. In addition she advises on charity matters including tax efficient charitable giving.
Marilyn combines her practice with her appointment as a Judge of the First Tier Tax Tribunal.
Marilyn is a member of the Tax Law Committee of the Law Society of England and Wales and is also a member of the Capital Taxes Sub-Committee. She is actively involved, on behalf of the Law Society, in engaging with HMRC on matters affecting the taxation of trusts and international individuals and is a member of the working party on the proposed changes to the non-domiciled rules and offshore trusts. Marilyn is a member of the Tax Commission and Estate Planning Commission of the Union Internationale Des Avocats and speaks at their congresses. She has, for many years, been a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
