24 April 2008: Employment: Pension during maternity leave: more pain for employers?
Kate Gater reviews the situation on pension benefits during maternity leave.  The Government’s changes to the sex discrimination and maternity laws will make clear that employees who are due to give birth on or after 5 October 2008 will remain entitled to all of their normal employment benefits, with the exception of remuneration, for the whole of the 52 week statutory maternity leave period. 
22 April 2008: Employment: Charging age-related rates for benefits under a flex scheme is not age discrimination
In the recent case of Swann v GHI Insurance Services UK Ltd, the employment tribunal considered whether it was age discrimination to provide private medical insurance under a flexible benefits scheme, where the cost of cover depended on the age of the employee.  Nicole Hallegua reviews.

16 April 2008: Employment: Risk assessments for pregnant employees
Mark Kaye reviews the recent Employment Appeal Tribunal  decision in the case of Stevenson v J M Skinner & Co which is a useful reminder to employers that once they are informed that an employee is pregnant or has given birth, they are required to carry out a risk assessment.
