Corporate Finance: Shareholders' Rights Directive - more changes afoot for general meetings

Employment: Redundancy selection criteria in the spotlight

A recent Employment Appeal Tribunal decision has held that in a redundancy situation the employer should have consulted the "at risk" employee about the choice of redundancy selection criteria, as well as his scores against such criteria.


TechMedia: The worm turns for software patents

Back in March this year, the High Court handed down a decision on the patentability of computer programs see here.  This is an issue which has vexed courts considerably in recent years.  The High Court's decision was immediately appealed to the Court of Appeal (CA), whose decision has been eagerly anticipated in the hope that it would offer some clarity on the issue.  The CA has now handed down its decision.  Toby Headdon comments.


Proposed changes to the Model Code

The Model Code applies to companies whose shares are admitted to the Official List.  Its purpose is to ensure that persons discharging managerial responsibilities do not abuse, and do not place themselves under suspicion of abusing, inside information.
