Segun Osuntokun joins BLP to expand and strengthen litigation offering
Segun Osuntokun is to join Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP (BLP) as a partner to strengthen its Banking and Finance Litigation practice. Segun was previously a partner at DLA Piper.
Segun’s arrival at BLP will add and give further support to BLP’s rapidly expanding banking and finance litigation practice, headed by David Hughes. As well as having developed contacts in Africa that will compliment those across the firm, Segun has spent time working in the Financial Services Authority. His work includes acting for national governments, international financial institutions and banks, private equity, energy and telecoms companies, as well as high net worth individuals.
Segun joins BLP’s Corporate, Commercial and Finance Dispute Resolution team, which comprises eighteen lawyers and undertakes a broad range of work for banks and financial institutions including major actions on behalf of overseas financial regulatory authorities; for example, the claim under disputed promissory notes totalling US$¾bn against Telsim Mobil Telekomunikasyon Hizmetleri a.s.
Jonathan Sacher, BLP’s head of dispute resolution, said: “Segun will help to add to our already strong banking litigation practice and our growing financial services offering. His contacts in Sub-Saharan Africa also help to complement our own growing relationships across that region.”
Segun added: “I am really looking forward to joining BLP. Its focus on building a depth of expertise in financial services and its strong reputation in all areas of contentious law are a really good match with the areas in which I have experience. The firm’s distinctive international strategy is something that I am particularly keen on. It provides the opportunity to work with the best legal minds internationally through strong relationships that are built on trust, while giving clients the flexibility to select the solution that works best for them. In complex local jurisdictions, where local contacts and experience are key, that works particularly well.”
