Retail specialist Caroline Walker appointed as Real Estate Partner at BLP

International law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has today (16 March 2015) announced the appointment of Caroline Walker as a Partner in its Real Estate department.

Caroline will join BLP on 1 May 2015 in the Firm’s Core Real Estate group from Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co LLP, where she has been a Partner in its Real Estate team since 2012 having also trained there.

Caroline advises on a wide range of commercial property transactions and specialises in investment and development work for institutional clients, including large portfolio sales and purchases. Caroline has also amassed particular retail experience through dealing with the letting and development of large multi-let properties and shopping centres.

BLP’s market-leading international Real Estate department is able to advise on every part of a real estate sector transaction, specialising in commercial real estate and construction, planning and environment issues, disputes, finance, M&A and tax. With nearly 60 partners and over 300 lawyers, the Department is also highly regarded for its work in many market sectors including leisure, hotels, public sector and retail.

Chris de Pury, Head of Real Estate at BLP, said: “This appointment further outlines our commitment to developing our already exceptional team here at BLP. Caroline’s retail sector expertise will be invaluable to us and the experience she will bring will not only benefit the work we do in London but also internationally.”

Caroline Walker added: “Having worked on the other side of the table to BLP during various transactions I am very excited to be joining such a focussed team. With one of the largest real estate teams in the country and a clear strategy towards further international growth, this is a great time to be joining such a forward-thinking and innovative Firm and working with some of the best clients in the sector.”

Additionally, Caroline was the Graduate Recruitment Partner for Lawrence Graham LLP for over two years, organising and running graduate recruitment, acting as training principal for all trainees, appraising all trainees on a quarterly basis and managing the qualification process. She continued as one of the two partners leading the firm’s graduate recruitment programme following the merger.

This announcement follows that of other recent appointments including Scott Antel from DLA Piper as a Real Estate Partner into BLP’s Abu Dhabi office, Daniyal Ansari from Eversheds as a Partner in the Firm’s Real Estate Finance Group and Bob Charlton, who also joined from DLA Piper, as Head of Asia and Managing Partner of BLP’s Hong Kong office. The firm also appointed Ben Taylor as Associate Director in February.

BLP’s real estate capabilities extend internationally through its offices in Asia, Germany, the Middle East and Moscow, giving the Firm the resources and expertise to meet the requirements of its international client base.
