Rail expert Jason Chamberlain joins BLP
International law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) today (19 June 2017) announced the appointment of Asset Finance Partner, Jason Chamberlain. Jason is a renowned rail expert having worked on numerous high-profile mandates in the UK rail industry since privatisation in the mid-90s. He will join the London office later this month.
The appointment demonstrates BLP’s willingness to make strategic hires in areas of the business where clients are demanding more. The rail industry continues to show great potential and is a key component of the Firm’s successful global Asset Finance business, which was boosted by the hire of Hong Kong based Partners William Ho and Jackson Chow plus team and the promotion in Singapore of Simon Spells to Partner in 2016.
Formerly Counsel at Freshfields, Jason previously worked at the Office of Passenger Rail Franchising and the Strategic Rail Authority, in their franchising and legal departments. His experience includes advising clients on a wide range of rail sector transactions, including rolling stock procurement, maintenance and leasing, trading rail companies and franchising/concessioning.
He also has expertise in railway infrastructure projects, including the Thameslink Programme and Crossrail and rail regulatory and statutory requirements. Jason was also heavily involved in the formulation of template passenger franchise and concession agreements for use in the franchising/concessioning of passenger railway services.
Commenting on BLP’s first Partner hire of the new financial year, Adam Dann, Head of Finance at BLP, said: “Jason has a proven reputation in the market and we’re very pleased he’s decided to progress his career at BLP. He brings a wealth of rail experience to add to our existing capability in the UK and the potential to better connect our expertise across the globe. Our strategy is about delivering for clients and this is an example of this in action.”
Jason responded: “The rail industry shows great potential both in the UK and beyond. It’s one of the most efficient and environmentally sound ways to travel and transport goods. The breadth of clients interested in the sector is widening as rail becomes an increasingly popular investment option for the private sector. I’m looking forward to joining a firm so committed to the industry and supporting a diverse range of clients.”
Jason’s appointment follows other recent Partner hires including Andrew MacGeoch as Head of Real Estate & Infrastructure in APAC, Frankfurt-based Restructuring Partner Till Buschmann, Corporate Tax Partner Mark Brailsford.
