New Corporate DMP and Head of Corporate Finance announced at BLP

International law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) announced today (20.03.13) that it has appointed current Head of Corporate Finance, David Collins, as the Firm’s Corporate Departmental Managing Partner (DMP).  As a result of assuming the role of Corporate DMP, David will also become a member of the BLP Board. In addition, Corporate Partner David Barnes becomes the new Head of Corporate Finance, both effective from 1 April 2013.

The announcement comes after BLP appointed current Corporate DMP, John Bennett, as International Business Partner on Monday 18 March 2013.

David Collins has been a Partner at BLP since 1996 and Head of Corporate Finance and a member of the Firm’s Strategy Group since 2001, and has a wealth of experience in corporate finance across a broad range of sectors.

Under David’s leadership, BLP’s Corporate Finance team has gone from strength-to-strength in terms of its market reputation and directory rankings.  This has been achieved through the combination of organic growth and a number of significant strategic lateral hires such as M&A heavyweights Alan Paul (A&O) and David Barnes (Linklaters), as well as Alexander Keepin (Charles Russell), Cath Shirley (Skadden Arps), Lisa O’Neill (A&O) and Julian Stanier (Norton Rose).

David Barnes, the new Head of Corporate Finance, joined BLP as a Corporate Partner in March 2012 from Linklaters where he worked for 36 years, and was their Global Corporate Head between 2005 and 2010.

Neville Eisenberg, BLP Managing Partner, commented: “David Collins has made a valuable contribution to the Firm’s Corporate Finance practice over the years and emerged as the obvious candidate to become the Firm’s new Corporate DMP.  Together with David Barnes leading the Corporate Finance group, their combined experience and market reputation gives me great confidence in the further development of the strength and depth of BLP’s Corporate practice.”

David Collins said: “Continuing the upward momentum of our Corporate practice remains a key strategic priority for the Firm.  BLP has made huge progress in recent years in the UK and internationally and I am delighted to have been appointed as Corporate DMP to help the Firm drive its on-going success and implement our ambitious plans for the future.”

“Whilst economic conditions remain extremely challenging, I am confident that we can continue to gain market share in our chosen markets through a strategy centred on excellent client service, delivered by top quality people operating as a close-knit team.”

David Barnes said: “I am delighted to be taking over from David Collins as head of Corporate Finance and look forward to working with Corporate and other colleagues to continue the practice’s progressive development. This is an exciting moment for the Firm.”
