Leading leveraged finance lawyer Andrew Bamber to join BLP

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has appointed Andrew Bamber as a partner within its Banking & Capital Markets department.  Andrew’s principal focus will be to use his very extensive experience of sponsor-led acquisition financings to enhance the build out of BLP’s leveraged finance and private equity offering.

Andrew is currently at Allen & Overy, where he has been a senior leveraged finance partner since 2002, and will join BLP in September.  His appointment will complement the recent appointment of private equity industry heavyweight Raymond McKeeve and BLP’s market leading real estate private equity capability.  Andrew will also continue to develop his existing practice and client base in his established related specialties in asset based financings and equity financings.

Andrew has been consistently ranked over many years, by Legal 500 and the other major directories as a ‘leading individual’ in leveraged acquisition finance.  He has advised participants such as sponsors, arranging banks, mezzanine funds, hedge funds and corporates on a large number of high profile leveraged acquisitions, including public takeovers, complex cross border transactions and management buy outs and buy ins, covering all parts of the capital structure.  He also has considerable current experience in asset based financing and complex equity financing and restructurings.

Andrew’s appointment is a key part of a firmwide drive to build a leading private equity capability.  In addition to the core team, BLP’s private equity offering is enhanced by its growing and highly regarded tax, restructuring and regulatory teams.

Neville Eisenberg, BLP’s managing partner, said: “Andrew’s appointment is a very significant step forward for BLP. We have had a long-stated ambition to create a leading private equity capability, on both the sponsor and lender sides, and the addition of Andrew adds substantially to our momentum and capability in achieving that goal.”

Andrew added: “BLP’s entrepreneurial spirit remains strong even in the most difficult of markets and their evident commercial acumen and commitment to the growth of these key areas was a huge attraction.  I am looking forward to working with the highly respected individuals at BLP whose progress I have been impressed by over the years. I believe our combined offering signals how serious the firm is about providing private equity and leveraged finance clients with the high-quality service they demand.”
