Lawyers On Demand appoints former BLP HR Director, Geoff Griffin, as People and Development Advisor
Lawyers On Demand (LOD), the innovative alternative legal services provider launched by international law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), today announced the appointment of Geoff Griffin as the company’s new People and Development Advisor.
Geoff, who was previously HR Director and latterly Partner Coach at LOD’s parent company, BLP, will join LOD on 1 October 2013 and work with Co-Founders Simon Harper and Jonathan Brenner to help grow the LOD business. The announcement marks another high profile appointment for LOD following former Financial Times GC, Tim Bratton, who joined as Practice Development Director on 1 September 2013.
The newly created role will see Geoff work directly with the Directors to advise on LOD’s law firm strategy, building on LOD’s existing success with this client group. Geoff will also support LOD in attracting more senior, partner level lawyers into LOD’s team as well as mentor LOD’s core HQ team based in Adelaide House.
Geoff’s financial and people management skills span over 30 years. Having initially qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Spicer and Oppenheim (now part of Deloitte), Geoff later joined Baker Tilly where he became their National Staff Partner. Geoff has also been a member of the LOD board since it became a separate entity in June 2012, a position he will continue with in his new role.
LOD Co-Founder, Simon Harper, said: “Geoff was one of the first people we approached when the idea for LOD was first conceived, and he played an instrumental role in helping us bring LOD to life. We are therefore delighted that he will now be working with the LOD HQ team. Geoff knows both LOD and BLP inside out and his extensive experience in business and people management will no doubt help LOD continue to flourish.”
Geoff said: “During my time at BLP, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being involved with the LOD business both in an advisory capacity and also as a buyer of their services as HR Director. It is a business model that I have a great affinity for and it is exciting to be joining a ground-breaking business with huge potential. I am really looking forward to working with the team to help develop the business and to take LOD’s law firm offering to the next level.”
LOD was launched with the backing of BLP in 2007 as an alternative legal service and a new way of working for talented lawyers. Seeing that both clients and lawyers were looking at ways to work differently, LOD was launched to shake up traditional models. LOD now has a team of around 120 of the highest quality lawyers working with clients such as Google, Porsche and Channel 4.
LOD also recently launched LOD On Call, a new pay-as-you-go model to complement its initial secondment style model. LOD On Call offers clients access to the expertise of remote LOD lawyers just they need it and is designed for when they might otherwise outsource a project but don’t need the full City law firm infrastructure.
