Goltsblat BLP builds on global real estate capability with team of new hires

The Moscow office – Goltsblat BLP – of leading international law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has announced the appointment of a real estate legal team today.

The team of renowned lawyers will build upon the rapidly growing success of GBLP’s Real Estate team and provide added weight to BLP’s global real estate capability, which spans a number of international offices including Moscow, Berlin, Frankfurt, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Hong Kong, Beijing and London. Furthermore this will make GBLP’s Real Estate practice, led by Real Estate and Construction Partner Vitaly Mozharowski, one of the largest and most capable in Russia, consolidating its position as one of the leading real estate teams in the market.

The Moscow based team, who are currently with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld (previously with CMS), are expected to have completed their move to GBLP by mid-January next year. Vladislav Sourkov, current Head of Akin Gump’s Real Estate practice, will be joined by former colleagues Rustam Aliev and Dmitry Maltsev. This well-established team is consistently top-ranked by legal directories such as Legal 500, Chambers and Best Lawyers as ‘among the best in Russia’. The team has recently been involved in a series of notable major acquisitions in connection with prominent new business centres in Moscow and other cities throughout Russia.

Once at GBLP, the team will work with the existing international BLP Real Estate team to build upon and expand the Firm’s growing market share and reach. BLP has over 360 real estate lawyers worldwide and has worked on some notable international transactions this year, including Allianz’s €300m acquisition of the office complex ‘Skyper’ in Frankfurt and the joint venture between CBRE Global Investors and Teacher Retirement System, Texas on the purchase of the Leine Centre in Hannover for €117m. These hires follow the announcement in November that Karen Friebe, the former global co-chair of DLA Piper’s hospitality and leisure group, will join BLP from early next year.

Vladislav Sourkov said: ”I am very pleased to be joining a firm with such highly-regarded real estate capabilities, recognised globally as one of the leading places to practice real estate. My team and I are looking forward to hitting the ground running and working on the many domestic and international real estate deals that GBLP is involved in.”

Andrey Goltsblat, Managing Partner of Goltsblat BLP, said: ”I am sure that the consolidation of these two highly professional teams will allow our Real Estate and Construction Practice to strengthen its position as a market leader.”

BLP International Real Estate Partner, James Knox, said: “BLP is renowned internationally for its expertise in real estate and we are delighted that such a regarded team of legal experts will provide added weight to the highly successful GBLP’s Real Estate practice in Russia as well as to our global real estate capability. As Russia is forecast to see investment in the sector reach between $7-8bn this year, it is already one of the largest real estate markets in Europe – with Moscow the third largest real estate investment city after London and Paris.”
