Explosive growth continues in BLP tax team with new partner recruit
Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP (BLP) has appointed Kevin Cummings as a tax partner, taking the number of partners in the department to 21. Kevin, who was previously a senior associate at Allen & Overy, will join the firm later this month. He is the latest partner appointment to what is fast becoming the largest tax team in the City. A finance tax specialist, Kevin has particular experience in tax structured finance, carbon finance and securitisation.
BLP took forward its strategic project to further expand the tax group and to develop tax as a fifth pillar of expertise with the hire of industry specialist Michael Wistow in September 2007. This was followed by the creation of a highly regarded tax risk and resolution team in the form of Liesl Fichardt and Andrew Watters. In May of this year former Goldman Sachs International tax counsel, Michael McKenna, joined as a tax partner. BLP is now the only large City firm able to offer the full range of risk and resolution tax advice across corporate, finance, real estate, funds, VAT, personal tax, trusts and charities, with unparalleled strength, breadth and depth.
Michael Wistow, BLP’s head of tax, said: “Tax is the firm’s fifth pillar of expertise and as a firm we appreciate its importance to our clients. Kevin’s appointment enables us to further strengthen our capabilities in finance and provides our clients with a greater breadth and depth of service. His experience in tax structured finance and securitisation, as well as the emerging area of carbon finance, will be a welcome asset to the team.”
Kevin added: “I am excited to be joining a team that includes some of the most highly respected names in the business. Even taking account of recent explosive growth, the department feels cohesive and collaborative. The drive and dedication to provide a premier tax capability is striking.”
