BLP Partner Lesley-Anne Avis new national Chairman of Women in Property

Lesley-Anne Avis of international law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), has been appointed National Chairman of the Association of Women in Property (WiP) for 2012/2013, taking on the role from 1 March 2012.

Lesley-Anne is a Real Estate Partner at BLP where she specialises in all aspects of regeneration development projects, across the private and public sectors.  As a member of The Association of Women in Property for 15 years, she has served on the South East committee for over five years and has also held the role of National Treasurer, in 2006/8.

This year, WiP celebrates its 25th Anniversary – the organisation was originally formed back in 1987 as a networking group for professional women because, at that time, there were so few women working in this industry.  While much has changed, the fact remains that women still represent only 15% of the property and construction industry workforce, so there is a still some way to go.

Commenting on her new role Lesley-Anne said: “We are gradually closing the gap through initiatives such as our Schools Roadshow programme which highlights to girls the career potential in property and construction. We also have our National Student Awards for undergraduates and a popular mentoring programme for members at any stage of their career.  At the other end of the spectrum, we have our Boardroom Series with speakers and events offering high level guidance to those senior women working towards positions on company Boards.”
