BLP Head of Arbitration appointed Queen’s Counsel

Berwin Leighton Paisner’s (BLP) Head of International Arbitration, Nic Fletcher, has been recommended for appointment as a QC by Her Majesty The Queen on the advice of the Lord Chancellor.

Nic was recommended by the independent QC Selection Panel and is one of five solicitor advocates to be made QC this year, out of seven that applied. This marks the culmination of a rigorous, eight month vetting process and consideration of a total 225 applications, leading to 100 new appointments.

“We have been offering our clients first class advocacy in-house since I joined BLP and I am delighted that the part that I have played in that has been recognised by my appointment to silk”, Nic said.

Jonathan Sacher, Head of Litigation & Dispute Resolution, said: “Since the growth of our International Arbitration practice, some 70% of our dispute resolution work is now international.  We are the only firm in London that can offer a combination of the solicitor analysis/advice/strategy role, the trial lawyer function, forensic accounting, forensic IT and contract lawyers in our Lawyers On Demand services. This is a unique offering.”

BLP currently has 13 partners who specialise in International Arbitration, working out of London, Moscow, Singapore and Abu Dhabi. Nic is also BLP’s third QC, the second in the Litigation Department’s International Arbitration practice after Stuart Isaacs QC. Janet Turner QC is Head of the firm’s Charities team.
