BLP continues to build firmwide financial services capability with hire of regulatory expert Nick Kynoch
Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has hired financial services expert Nick Kynoch to its Financial Services and Markets Group. Nick was previously a financial services partner at Mayer Brown. His appointment will further strengthen BLP’s leading firmwide financial services regulatory capability.
Nick’s experience includes a broad range of financial services work, helping clients – including the likes of Bank of New York Mellon, Northern Trust, Danske Bank and RBC Dexia – comply with increased regulation in the area. He is also a member of the City of London Law Society’s Regulatory Committee.
His hire follows a series of recent announcements about the recruitment of partners with expertise in the financial services sector. For example, regulatory partner Jacob Ghanty and financial services litigation expert Daren Allen, former head of Financial Services at DLA Piper, joined last month and will work closely with Nick. Other recruits include Lisa Mayhew and Marian Bloodworth, who recently joined the firm’s Employment team, and Matthew Kellett and Lucy Oddy, who joined the growing Finance department, which Matthew now heads up. These hires strengthened BLP’s existing financial services regulation team, which includes leading experts such as Sidney Myers, Nathan Willmott and Peter McGowan.
Other BLP recruits in the past six months include: Alistair Duffield, who now heads up the firm’s Singapore office and has been joined by five other lawyers to double the size of the South East Asian operation; private client experts Richard Ticehurst in London and Simon Michaels in Singapore; Michael Metliss, the former head of SJ Berwin’s Property Disputes team; Alexander Keepin, a corporate finance expert who joined from Charles Russell; and asset finance expert Keith Wilson, who joined the firm’s growing finance team.
Sidney Myers, head of BLP’s Financial Services group, said: “The regulatory burden falling on financial institutions from both the UK and EU authorities has grown significantly and is only set to increase. As a result, our clients need greater support to interpret and implement complex new compliance requirements. We have hired some of the leading individuals to make our team one of the strongest in the City. Nick is yet another major figure in the industry; he will be a real asset to both our team and our clients.”
Nick Kynoch said: “BLP understands the client demand for financial services and has built a very high quality team. It includes some of the most respected individuals in the sector, so I am really looking forward to working with them. We will also be looking to support global clients as we grow our financial services capability across BLP’s international offices, specifically Singapore and Abu Dhabi.”
