BLP advises Patron Capital on £23m acquisition

Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP (BLP) has advised Patron Capital Partners (Patron), on its  acquisition of a 29% stake in Powerleague Group Plc (Powerleague), valuing the transaction at approximately £23m.  Powerleague, an AIM listed company, is the UK’s leading operator of 5-a-side football centres.

Patron represents approximately €1.6bn of capital across several funds which invest in property, corporate operating entities whose value is primarily supported by property assets and distressed debt and credit related businesses.

The deal was led by BLP corporate finance partner, Benjamin Lee.  He was supported by a team including Robert Bindless (partner – real estate) and Richard Werner (associate – corporate finance).

Commenting on the transaction, Benjamin said:

“BLP have undertaken a number of transactions for Patron in the last year and we were pleased to advise on this current transaction.  This significant  investment will allow Powerleague to leverage from Patron’s expertise in the property sector and wide global networks to achieve growth of the business in the UK and anticipated overseas expansion.”
