Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) acted for the Luxembourg based Elster group on the acquisition by its UK subsidiary, Elster Metering Limited, of the SmartMeter™ water meter and Ajusta™ boundary box businesses carried on by Severn Trent Metering Services Limited, a subsidiary of Severn Trent plc.

Elster is a world leader in Automated Meter Reading (AMR), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and integrated metering and utilisation solutions to the gas, electricity and water industries. The SmartMeter range of AMR-enabled products incorporates no-moving-parts technology to deliver accuracy alongside intelligent metering features such as tariffs and event monitoring.  Elster group has over 7,500 staff and operations in 38 countries, focused in North and South America, Europe, and Asia and in 2008, generated worldwide sales of over €1,300m.

The team acting on the sale was led by corporate partner Keith Stella, with associates Manu Chopra and James Downey assisting.

Commenting on the deal, Keith said: “Elster is a hugely prestigious group and we were delighted to have been selected to advise on this acquisition.  This was our first set of instructions for the group and we very much look forward to building a long and successful relationship.”
