BLP 2012 Sporting Hopefuls Sponsorship – Boosted By Laura Robson Win
The support of four young athletes in their bids to represent Great Britain at 2012, by City law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP (BLP), received a boost at the weekend when Laura Robson won the girls’ Junior Wimbledon title.
The other athletes are middle and long distance runner Emily Pidgeon (19) and sprinter Wade Bennett-Jackson (21), with the fourth being triathlete Jill Parker, a BLP real estate finance lawyer, who has been with the firm since 2001.
Announced ahead of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the initiative exemplifies the firm’s commitment to nurturing talent and supporting local projects.
BLP Managing Partner Neville Eisenberg said: “We are thrilled to be associated with these talented young athletes and Laura’s success at Wimbledon was an unexpected boost to the profile of what we are doing. All of them are already competing at a very high level and we will be following their progress with great interest over the next four years. Sources of funding are very difficult to find for most young sportsmen and women and our support is consistent with the firm’s desire to encourage talent and support local initiatives.”
Commenting on the sponsorship, BLP employee and triathlete Jill Parker said: “I have been supported by BLP for a number of years now, and it is great that the firm is in a position to support other young athletes as they come through the ranks. As a result of the flexible working arrangements BLP has put in place for me, I’ve managed to fit my workload around the 20 or so hours of training I need to do each week to enable me to reach my full potential.”
