Berwin Leighton Paisner and Lawyers On Demand announced as National Business Awards finalists

International law firm, Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), has been shortlisted for Blackberry Growth Strategy of the Year at this year’s National Business Awards in partnership with Orange. In addition, Lawyers On Demand (LOD), the creative legal resourcing business incubated by BLP, has been shortlisted for The Orange Innovation award.

The full service law firm with nine offices around the world became the fastest growing law firm in the UK top 20 during 2009 – 2011 as a result of its innovative approach to legal services. BLP, headquartered in London, has eight other offices around the world and works with a range of clients, including Global 500 and FTSE 100 companies.

Going up against the likes of Baringa Partners and The Foundry, BLP will compete for the prestigious Growth Strategy award, whilst LOD is up against the likes of BT and BCSG in the Orange Innovation category. All the winners will be revealed at the National Business Awards gala dinner held on 13 November in London.

A panel of experts including Leslie Copeland, CEO at Vitesse Media, Phil Lander, senior director at Research in Motion, Tom Thomas, chief executive at The Institute of Commercial Management and Martin McCourt, director at Montagu Private Equity will judge the Growth Strategy Award entries, following a live presentation from the ten finalists. Shortlisting judge Leslie Copeland said: “Pursuing an ambitious long term strategy for domestic and international growth, law firm BLP’s enterprising and innovative approach is paying off.”

Sarah Farrugia of Advocateur, Andrew Humphries of Tech City Investment organisation, James Stickland of JP Morgan Chase and Martin Stiven of Orange, part of Everything Everywhere will judge the Orange Innovation entries. Shortlisting judge Gideon Hyde, founder and Director of Market Gravity said: “Lawyers on Demand provides a cost-effective and flexible service model to create a win-win for both clients and employees in a traditional market.”

Neville Eisenberg, Managing Partner at BLP, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this award. BLP has been the fastest growing firm in the top 20 in recent years, driven by a clear plan and differentiated approach to organic growth. We are well-known for our innovative thinking which sets us apart from other law firms, it is therefore great to see that LOD, a business that we launched and built, has also been recognised for its innovation.”

BLP, which is always at the forefront of legal innovation, has previously received three FT Innovative Lawyer Awards and it is the only law firm to have been named “Law Firm of the Year” by two leading legal awards – The Lawyer and Legal Week.

Baroness Virginia Bottomley, Chair of Judges said: “This year has been a challenging environment for British businesses: these finalists demonstrate how companies are succeeding in the current climate through innovation, originality and tenacity. It’s good to see a broad range of companies both in sector and size – an impressive representation of the potential British businesses have. Congratulations to all our finalists.”
