  • 10+ years’ experience advising on antitrust and regulatory issues in the aviation, energy, rail and water sectors.
  • Significant financial services experience including advising on the global Foreign Exchange investigations and various FCA matters.
  • Major clients include: Banking Corporations, Fairmont Hotels, Ferrero International, Morgan Stanley, National Grid, ScottishPower, S T Aerospace, Sumitomo Mitsubishi and Thames Water.
  • James spent six months with the UK Competition and Markets Authority where he helped develop the new antitrust regime and the regulated sector antitrust procedure.

Global investment bank

Advising on the international Foreign Exchange investigation which has seen aggregate global penalties of more than US$10 billion. This is one of the largest financial sector investigations and involves multiple regulators from jurisdictions including the UK, EU, US, Korea and Brazil.


Major private equity investment in the rail sector

Advised on an ongoing antitrust investigation into the target in the context of an auction bid. Drawing on knowledge of the antitrust enforcement procedures which James had developed while at the CMA, our risk-based advice helped the client to proceed with the big and mitigate potential antitrust exposure.


Global communications business

Advised on the EU, Chinese, Indian and South African antitrust aspects of exclusive supply and joint marketing arrangement.


Ferrero International

Achieved Phase 1 EU clearance for a major public takeover.


A major South East Asian aerospace business

Advising on competition implications of a US$ 100m-plus joint bidding and marketing project involving supply of military aircraft services to more than a dozen governments in Asia, Africa and South America.
