  • 15+ years’ experience covering corporate finance and advisory, energy, resources and infrastructure projects and financings, government transactions and advisory work.
  • Specialisms include privatisations and major government law reform processes, financing and development of major energy, infrastructure and corporate projects, corporate acquisitions and joint ventures.
  • Significant hands on experience in undertaking novel and complex advisory and transactional work in Myanmar, including one of the first secured financings of an infrastructure business and detailed legal feasibility studies in various sectors including power, financial services and product sales.
  • Has lived and worked in Myanmar since 2013 and is currently advising the Government of Myanmar on the reform of the Myanmar Companies Act.
  • Deeply engaged in legal and business reform and regulatory development including through: engagement to lead the redrafting of the Myanmar Companies Law; participation as a market expert on Investment Law and investment treaty consultations; and leading roles in the Myanmar Business Forum as well as other business working groups and chambers.
  • Frequent speaker and commentator on Myanmar business issues. 
  • Australian and UK qualified emerging markets transactional lawyer.​

Significant Myanmar experience including: advising on a competitive bid for an IPP project; and a full legal feasibility study for a renewable energy demonstration project and participation arrangements for a hydro project. Previously advised on transactions and energy reform processes in the UK, Europe and Australia.



Advised a number of the newly licensed foreign banks on their commercial aspects of their branch set ups, including leasing and employment arrangements, regulatory matters, offshore/onshore lending and related regulatory advice and approvals.



Advised a mobile tower infrastructure company on the senior secured, mezzanine and bridge financing of its tower project in Myanmar.



Advised Colgate-Palmolive on the completion of its acquisition of the LASER toothpaste manufacturing facility and brands in Myanmar and all follow on aspects of the commencement of its Myanmar operations.



Advised a regional healthcare services company on the formation and financing of a Myanmar healthcare services joint venture



Lead draftsman of proposed new Myanmar Companies Law. Advising the State of NSW on its 5 year, $8+ billion energy reform arrangements, including: the sale of electricity retail businesses, gas retailers, development sites and generation trading arrangements; the structuring and sale of the generation trading rights, retail business and development site assets of Macquarie Generation, Delta Electricity, Eraring Energy, EnergyAustralia (now AusGrid), Integral Energy (now Endeavour Energy) and Country Energy (now Essential Energy); the preparation of enabling legislation and statutory directions to facilitate the transactions; and the implementation of project governance arrangements between Treasury, the State Owned Corporations and the Project advisers.


Oil & Gas

Advising a Myanmar E&P company on the farm out of its interest in an onshore PSC and an international exploration company on the operation of its PSC interest.
