Biography

  • A corporate finance partner specialising in listings, fundraisings as well as mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. Alexander has acted on over 14 public market transactions in the last three years.
  • A specialist in the natural resources industries, Alexander's work for clients includes assisting mining companies with alternative sources of finance, including strategic investments, joint ventures and equity based fundraisings. Another particular areas of focus in recent periods has been strategic acquisitions, including reverse takeovers – which are particularly popular if the acquisition leads to cost savings or a re-rating.
  • Alexander has also acted on a number of fundraisings, IPOs and reverse takeovers for oil and gas companies.
  • Alexander is frequently involved in international transactions, particularly in Africa and in Russia and the former CIS.

Mining

Advised International Mining and Infrastructure Corporation (IMIC plc), an AIM-listed investment company which focuses on iron ore and other metals in Africa, on its acquisition by way of reverse takeover of Afferro Mining, an owner of several iron ore projects in Cameroon, for $190m.

Advised JP Morgan Cazenove and Investec on a secondary placing for AIM, ASX and JSE listed Coal of Africa raising $106m. Alexander also advised Deutsche Bank on a $43m fundraising for CoAL.

Advised Canaccord and JP Morgan Cazenove on the acquisition by Gemfields of Fabergé Limited for $142m. Prior to joining BLP, Alexander also acted for Canaccord on the IPO of Gemfields and for JP Morgan Cazenove and Canaccord on the reverse takeover of Gemfields by Rox Limited and its re-admission to AIM.

Mining

Acted on behalf of Numis Securities Limited, Investec Bank PLC and Australian broker Paterson Securities in the successful equity fundraising by Australian mining firm Wolf Minerals Limited. The fundraising, which comprised a placing and subscriptions that conditionally raised £99.2m (A$182.7m), was to fund the development of the Hemerdon Tungsten-Tin Project in Devon - the first metals mine to open in the UK in the last 40 years.

Advising on the sale of Royal Atlantic (Cyprus) Limited and Vostok Energy LCC from Bandbear Limited to Zoltav Resources Inc, the CIS-focused oil and gas exploration and development company, for total consideration of US$180m. The transaction was a reverse takeover.
