Our levels of employee engagement can be seen by the results of the 2008 YouGov survey where BLP’s rate of employee engagement was 70% against an average of 55% of all firms taking part.


Developing your career

Career development is at the heart of our strategy and in the last three years comprehensive career development frameworks have been introduced to provide clarity on career progression for lawyers; PSLs; secretaries and all business services staff.  We want to ensure all staff are able to reach their full potential. 

In 2006 we introduced our own Legal Practice Course (LPC) with the College of Law for future trainees and they attend a three day residential course at Sandhurst Military Academy immediately before joining the firm.

We were one of the first firms to introduce a truly attractive career option to partnership, the Associate Director role.

Communication is key to our staff engagement strategy

Our initiatives include:

  • Conferences for partners, associates and secretaries;
  • A Staff Liaison Committee made up of employee representatives from across the firm;
  • A Diversity Committee to help ensure we maintain an inclusive and supportive culture;
  • A staff suggestions scheme which offers prizes for great ideas;
  • Regular team meetings are held as are team away days to discuss plans, new initiatives etc;
  • A series of strategy presentations by the managing partner each year.

We are also a firm who invest heavily in CSR initiatives and are actively looking at ways to reduce our impact on the environment.  Thirty per cent of our staff have taken part in our CSR programme against a national average of 10-15%. Read more about BLP's CSR initiatives >
