Pro bono work forms an integral part of our commitment to the wider community. By pro bono work we mean legal advice or representation provided to individuals and community groups who cannot afford to pay for that advice or representation and where public funding is not available.
Our policy is to encourage all lawyers to undertake pro bono work of interest to them. Every practice group in the firm has a pro bono liaison partner responsible for promoting and encouraging pro bono work in their group. Recognition is given for pro bono work in staff annual appraisals.
All of the firm’s pro bono work is done at BLP’s expense and time and using the firm’s facilities, and pro bono client matters are treated for all purposes in the same way as any other client matter. The firm ensures that appropriate support, supervision and training are provided.
The firm is an active member of LawWorks, the operating name of the Solicitors Pro Bono Group - an independent charity with a mission to support, promote and encourage a commitment to pro bono across the solicitors' profession.
