Market Investigations

loading, please wait...

Market investigations by competition authorities can result in fundamental changes to commercial practices and behaviour in a sector.  Remedies may lead to substantial loss of income and can even require structural changes to the businesses involved. Our experience of market investigations and sector inquiries, in both the EU and UK, means that we are ideally placed to advise your company.

We have been involved with several UK market investigations, including recent Competition Commission investigations into groceries, airports, payment protection insurance, store cards and home credit.  We have also advised on the European Commission’s sector inquiry into business insurance.

Market investigations tend to be lengthy, complex and detailed.  The processes and procedures are complicated, and extensive management input is required.  Inquiries often also require the coordination of input from a range of specialists, including economists and financial analysts.  We can help you to communicate your company’s views and position to the authorities, and advise on how best to identify, coordinate and represent the facts.  We can analyse proposals and reports produced by relevant authorities and third parties and work with you and other advisers to enable you to respond in the best possible manner.
