Laura is one of the country’s leading young tennis players. At the age of 14 she was ranked number one in the world in her age group, and was competing, and making finals, in under-18 international tournaments.
In June 2008, Laura won the Eastbourne junior tournament and, the following week, was a finalist on grass at the Roehampton international event. She then crowned a memorable week at Wimbledon by winning the junior title. The youngest player in the tournament, she defeated the number three seed in the final to become the first British junior champion for 24 years. In September, Laura played in her first senior event (the Gaz de France Open), and marked her debut with an opening match win against Alice Balducci.
In November, Laura won her first senior title with victory in the ITF-sanctioned women's tournament in Sunderland. Playing five matches in as many days, she defeated fellow Briton Samantha Vickers in the final to claim the title and end a remarkable year on another high. Laura is spending December and January in competing in the Eddie Herr tournament in Florida and the junior open in Australia.
